CONOPHYTUM CHRISOCRUXUM

  2. I was going to ask you if it wasn't a little strange for a cono to be flowering this time of year. But I have such little (none) experience with growing conophytum, I did what I thought was the prudent thing and kept my mouth (typing fingers) quiet. I always though, as with lithops, flowering in conophytum was triggered by the shortening days of late summer. So, is chrisocruxum prone to such misbehavior, or is flowering now very unusual. Pretty flowers either way. Thanks for sharing.

    1. There are a few species of Conophytums which flower at this time when they appear to be dormant. When it happened the first time I was taken by surprise. I have another Conophytum flowering today. Last June I posted some photos of other Conophytums flowering then and thought it would be a good idea to take photos of the Conophytums when not sheathed so that I could post them with photos of the flowers but I forgot. I will find them and post.

    1. If you look at the post on 21/6/15 there are some photos of this plant in Winter where you can see the markings. I believe this plant came from Terry Smale.
